Like many of us, Bernadette’s journey included body shame, rigid eating, and emotional eating. In this interview, she described this way:
Food was something I treated myself to or tortured myself with.
While searching for answers after following a very rigid but only temporarily successful diet, she came across the free chapter 1 download of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat. This began a process that has impacted every area of her life. Bernadette says that now “it is rare that I will demonize food – or myself.”
Listen to this inspiring recording about how Bernadette turned mindful eating from a program into a life-changing process.
Perhaps one of my favorite parts (I have many!) of this interview is when Bernadette described what it was like when she came across the letter she wrote to herself at the end of the Mindful Eating for Emotional Eating and Binge Eating Retreat she attended several years ago. I’ll paraphrase it: “I was so mean to myself for most of my life but that letter was so loving and forgiving.”
As Bernadette’s story so beautifully demonstrates, many people are surprised to discover that control isn’t the answer and that there isn’t a “right way” to eat – or even a right way to do mindful eating! Instead, what you learn about yourself during the process can literally change your life!
