12 Gifts of Mindful Eating

gift6Today, 12/12/12, is significant because a date with the same three numbers won’t come around again for 88 years – on January 1, 2101 or 01/01/01. In truth, every day is significant when we pause to recognize that this day will never come around again either. This profound fact is easy to forget, especially during the busy holiday season.

For the next 12 days, we’re going to share a mini-mindful eating exercise to help you focus on the gift of each day. Each one is intentionally short, simple, and powerful. After all, big gifts often come in small packages!

As you read and practice these mini-mindful eating exercises each day, you’ll gradually transform your eating experience.

Day 1: The Gift of AwarenessAwarenessOrnament

Mindlessness is a challenging habit to break because we’re, well, mindless! Your first exercise is to create some type of visual reminder to prompt your awareness wherever you eat. Some ideas:

  • Create a place card that says LOVE WHAT YOU EAT!
  • Use an unfamiliar decorative item to catch your attention
  • Tie a ribbon around a fork and place it above your plate
  • Share your other ideas (including pictures if you can) on Facebook and we’ll share them on Twitter and Pinterest!
