12 Gifts of Mindful Eating: Day 1 – Awareness

By Michelle May, M.D.

AwarenessOrnament(Awareness is Day 1 of the 12 Gifts of Mindful Eating. For the next 12 days, we are sharing a mini-mindful eating exercise to help you focus on the gift of each day. Each one is intentionally short, simple, and powerful. After all, big gifts often come in small packages!)

The Gift of Awareness

Mindlessness is a challenging habit to break because we’re, well, mindless!

Your first exercise is to create some type of visual reminder to prompt your awareness wherever you eat. Some ideas:

  • Create a place card that says LOVE WHAT YOU EAT!
  • Use an unfamiliar decorative item to catch your attention
  • Tie a ribbon around a fork and place it above your plate
  • Share your other ideas (including pictures if you can) on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest!
