12 Gifts of Mindful Eating: Day 3 – Attention

By Michelle May, M.D.

Attention(Attention is Day 3 of the 12 Gifts of Mindful Eating. For 12 days, we are sharing a mini-mindful eating exercise to help you focus on the gift of each day. Each one is intentionally short, simple, and powerful. After all, big gifts often come in small packages!)

The Gift of Attention

Love what you eat! Give food and eating the attention they deserve.

Today, select one meal to eat without any distractions – no TV, computer, reading, or driving. If that is too difficult at first, start with just a few mindful bites without distraction.

Focus fully on the food. If you find yourself becoming bored, quit eating and find something else to do. Very often, boredom is a signal that you’ve had enough.

What did you notice? Was it challenging? Easy? Fun? Boring? Share your observations!
