The Story Behind the Am I Hungry?® Bracelets
My name is Denyse and I originally created a bracelet with beads spelling out "Am I Hungry?" to help me change my life. Now I hope they help you change yours too!
After more than 20 years of yoyo-ing between 113 and 175 pounds, I discovered Am I Hungry?® while surfing the web. I was a corporate executive who made the decision to stay at home with my three beautiful children. With the Am I Hungry?® program and Facilitator Gillian Hood-Gabrielson's amazing coaching, I began moving past my food issues and began searching for direction in my life.
As I gradually freed myself from overeating and dieting, I needed frequent reminders to pay attention to my body's signals. At first I kept pieces of paper in my pocket that asked, "Am I hungry?" They kept falling apart so I laminated them-but they usually ended up scattered all over the house or ruined in the washer.
Then I had an epiphany! I created a bracelet with the letters spelling out "Am I Hungry?" - a beautiful reminder to be in charge of my eating. I wore the bracelet constantly because it helped me make the connection between what I was feeling and what I really needed. I made more bracelets using gemstones and glass beads that my brother brought back from his consulting trips in Africa.
The incredible thing is that although I'm an accountant, I discovered my true talent and artistic side through making jewelry. I always imagined that I'd go into business with my mom and now together we make unique one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry. We formed a company Handeja - Han for my daughter Hannah, de for me, and ja for my mom Jan. Handeja is truly a family company and we're proud that many of our beads come from the Sudan in Africa. Not only are the gemstones and glass beads beautiful, but we're able to help the women there live a better life too.
These bracelets, along with the Am I Hungry?® program, my coach Gillian, your newsletters, and all of the other Am I Hungry?® tools have helped along my journey. As I write this, I realize how far I've come and it makes me smile. Sometimes when I wear my bracelet, someone will ask about it and I get to share my story and how wonderful Am I Hungry?® has been for me. Thank you!
Reviews and Comments:
Wearing my Am I Hungry? bracelet on the arm that I use to open the fridge has helped me on more than one occasion. I have received a lot of compliments on the design and when asked about what it means, people commented on what a great idea it is. I recommend the Am I Hungry? program and bracelet as a diet-free way of losing weight.

I have found myself asking "Am I hungry?" a lot of more often during my waking hours. It really does stick in your consciousness. These are not just a decorative piece of jewelry--they are a self-affirming device to moderate your behavior. Seeing the phrase "Am I hungry?" constantly helps you get in touch with your feelings, so you think before you eat.

If you're like me, by now you have broken your New Years Resoloution to eat right and lose weight. "How can a bracelet help you renew your resolution?" you may ask. It carries a surprisingly simple and effective reminder: ask Am I Hungry?" before eating. I love the bracelet and believe it really helps you think before you eat because you have this little reminder. I for one need that.
